Wear the hat, wave the arms, be cool. Комментарий от : @Gray-Today |
Fantastic video as always Caleb! If you allow me one question please. Do you think the Rode PSA1+ can be use for the same set up instead the old model? If so, do you have a link to buy it? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English; I'm still learning Have a Productive and Healthy day! Комментарий от : @freddymiguelponce |
When you recommending throwing a sandbag on the cheaper alternative light stand, where would you put the sandbag? Does it attach to the stand or something? Thanks Комментарий от : @JMP-kw3wy |
had to click off when he started to explain how velcro works... I'm here to learn about the tech connecting all of this. If I'm smart enough to learn that, how am I not smart enough to know how you used the velcro... Комментарий от : @AnonymousOG |
This is one of my favourite Undone videos. I was hoping it would turn into a series but it got surprisingly few views… Комментарий от : @BalancedLugger |
this is so cool. for vo i use a rode boom w/ the clamp and it's been so versatile over 5 iterations of pro home studio . you've given me some great ideas for hanging other gear in a small space! thanks Caleb! very generous man. ;) Комментарий от : @amyfishervoiceovers |
This stand setup is dope! Already went wireless with the Rode Wireless Go II's based on your recommendation - going to add this boom arm to my c-stand setup and can the old school boom pole holder jammy that I've always hated, cheers! Комментарий от : @ndcendee |
love the sound of your voice over this mic. I wonder if you can make a video where you do audio processing. regards. Комментарий от : @LifeSurfingDude |
Still loving this setup. PSA 1 still on back order lol. 6/9/21 -Will Комментарий от : @Debtfreehomesteaders |
Any tips for how to adjust the tension? I am using a Sennheiser MKH 8050 and it seems to be too light for the arm to function properly and stay in position. Комментарий от : @chicagocoffeekilla |
Would you recommend the Synco mic d-2 instead of the Deinty? Комментарий от : @PatriciaAndrea_FL |
I have been doing Youtube wrong for 11 months now LOL LOVE this Channel Комментарий от : @GeeksJocks |
Can you rotate the mic though without unscrewing the pistol grip? Комментарий от : @mildmannered1086 |
2021 Update? Комментарий от : @deanjmoon |
just bought this set up and the PS1 arm seems too powerful for the deity mic with pistol grip. I doesn't really want to stay where I put it...Any trick to adding a little bit of weight to the mic end? It sort of just glides back to the ceiling when I try to position it as if the springs are too strong? I hope that makes sense Комментарий от : @87andsmith |
How are you syncing the audio with the video? Are you using another microphone on top of your camera as well? Комментарий от : @AlfaMedtech |
How does he get the Rode arm to straighten out at 0:20 ? I just built a similar setup and the arm wants to go up by itself even when I tightened the screws on the joints. Anybody know??? Комментарий от : @matthews.9343 |
Another great video Комментарий от : @curiosityguru9037 |
Great system, curious how you compensated for the light mic weight. I’m using an Oktava MK-012 and it’s not heavy enough to hold the boom down. Is use a Heil boom for my PR-40 and trying the Oktava on that seemed to work but this boom is so spring loaded it shoots back up. Did you use a counterweight? Комментарий от : @BehindTheShot |
SUper useful. Thanks! Комментарий от : @HerveDaCosta |
This was a super find and a great share. Glad I found your video Caleb 👍🏾 Комментарий от : @zekediligence |

U the best ! Комментарий от : @AlborzTech |
hello, i was wondering how were you able to attach the arm to that c-stand? i actually have two heavy duty c stands and id like to get this arm for my shotgun mic i have but id like to make sure i can actually attach it to my c-stand first. Комментарий от : @hood19 |
The shotgun mic sounds so much better than the lavalier clip on mic. Комментарий от : @kerendn |
Great video. Thanks for all you do to help us. Ok I already have the Deity S Mic pro and I connect it to an I rig pro for my sons YouTube set up, but I know it the sound will be much better using the Mix Pre 3. I could also connect this to an iPhone using a us Connection right or do I need a computer or laptop? Thanks so much Комментарий от : @shaunjones2625 |
Hey hey, help me out please! Have 77D and a Takstar mic, fixed a mic boom stand and bought an extension cable...as soon as I put the cable the audio is destroyed with noise...no extension cable is fine...? Комментарий от : @val-prettyblendedtips5253 |
Brilliant Комментарий от : @Togglefree |
none of these links even work... Комментарий от : @dillonjohnson7833 |
Hey Caleb. I know this is an old video but I could do with your help. When your mic is on the Rode arm, how do you get it weighted down? My arm keeps springing back up because the mic isn't heavy enough. Any help would be great. Cheers! Комментарий от : @ElliotCoen |
Definitely sound devices and the diety aint for starters. Комментарий от : @florinG |
Sorry, what's the wireless transmitter for? Комментарий от : @florinG |
Sound devices...NICCEEE.. Комментарий от : @florinG |
kinda an unfair comparison because the lav mic under the t shirt makes it sound muffled. Комментарий от : @fadedprodigy8620 |
Why is the S mic 2 significantly more than the D3 pro? Im less concerned with the price but what advantages I get for the upgrade? Cant I mount the Smic2 to a camera if needed....thanks. Комментарий от : @Burritosarebetterthantacos |
How'd you add the mix pre to the cheeseplate? Комментарий от : @OutstandnBrandon |
Which V Mount Battery would you suggest for this set up? Комментарий от : @OutstandnBrandon |

Great video! I'm just getting into audio after obtaining the Deity S2 Mic. I may completely take advantage of your setup man! Комментарий от : @Micah-Woods |
I have the Deity Microphones V-Mic D3 Pro Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone. What do i use to connect it to a boom mic stand or the stand you have here? Комментарий от : @RotterStudios |
Hi Caleb... Awesome setup can you tell me is the Deity D3 pro compatible with the Mix pre 3 ? The Mix pre 3 is not listed on Deity compatible devices list. Комментарий от : @TheBspeed |
What is better for audio recording. To use audio recorded by the preamp or the audio that runs to the camera? The reason I ask is I am filming a concert and would like to know if I should connect the audio to the camera or leave them separate and sync them in edit. Комментарий от : @JPurvis10 |

Could I utilize this same rig to get overhead video? Комментарий от : @KymistOG |
Can you live stream with this setup? Комментарий от : @JERRYGOODE |
Thank you for sharing this, Caleb. I really like your videos! I love the idea with the Rode arm on a pole and would like to build this, too. In order to fit the 1/4 screw on the Rode arm, will I have to damage the thread at the bottom of the Rode arm? Комментарий от : @Markus.Selders |
Amazing how much cleaner the one mic sounds over the other. Your lav mic sounds quite muffled. Комментарий от : @islandboystv |
This is so useful! I may actually use a setup like this for my videos... minus the wireless rig :) I actually feed the wire into Focusrite Scarlett and then connect the sound back to the camera with Scarlett's AUX output meant for monitoring. This may not be a "pro" way, but it really works. I then connect the camera through HDMI to my computer using Blackmagic's PCI card and record the video directly onto computer using a wireless mouse to start and stop the recording. It works great! Комментарий от : @eugenek1180 |
Why do you need a recorder? Can't you just use a mixer or audio interface? Is all this necessary? Комментарий от : @JoseBYOB |
Great setup! How did you compensate for the low weight of the shotgun mic? I am also using the Rode arm, but my mic (Video Mic Pro) isn't "heavy enought": the arm won't stay in one place. Комментарий от : @AndyGrabo |
Can your set up be plugged directly into the camera? Specifically a 3.5 mm audio input? Комментарий от : @wrightstudiosllc |
Hey Caleb! Great video, thank you for sharing your setup. I'm an audio engineer and sound mixer and this setup looks super neat for interviews. Question - How long does the USB battery on the MixPre usually last? I use Sony NP-F970 batteries and they're pretty bulky, so the USB power bank looks like a great option to try. Thanks! Комментарий от : @joellouisfire |
I use this one amzn.to/2W5dj8q ) Комментарий от : @voevodick |
Caleb, will you be able to review the Saramonic UWMIC9? Thanks. Комментарий от : @alminmanalo |

Best rig I've seen Комментарий от : @WOTheRobin |
I think either the wireless setup or the lav mic itself could be the weak link in your audio quality. I use Sennheiser as the minimum quality of wireless microphones but I know there are more competitors coming up these days. Although I do have some countryman lavs to use with them. Lectrosonics are the shiz for wireless and you pay for it. I personally prefer the Samson SB100 for an in house boom mic stand but you might have really tight quarters and yours seems pretty compact. I see people commenting on getting a zoom and they are just ok. The Sound Devices MixPre-3 is arguably the best entry level sound recorder on the market. Talk to anyone who does location sound and 9/10 will say sound devices. I use Zaxcom and although they are reliable, I'm the black sheep lol. Sorry but Zoom's gear just doesn't compare, which is fine, because it's so much cheaper, but in the world of audio, you generally get what you pay for. BTW I have owned a bunch of those friction arms, from the most expensive to the cheapest and they all fail. It would make me sad to see your equipment get damaged. I would recommend the Kupo Multi-Function Tray. They have both those things on B&H. Thanks for showing your setup. Комментарий от : @leegardner3839 |
It gives mega idea how "bad" is the audio from wireless set up, but also idea how quick my ears adjust to it. First moment i almost click to another video. But than i forgot about it and realize that on the end when you switch back. Great video Kaleb. Комментарий от : @ondrejjanoska660 |
If you’re looking for a cheaper rig here is a video I put together. Caleb definitely has a great setup. I hope this helps. $500 Audio Setup for Filmmaking and youtubers youtu.be/8s9FeDQzr2I Комментарий от : @AllThingsMan |
I would like to warn your viewers to be aware of a possible issue with the new Fuji XT3 firmware update: I installed the Firmware 3.0 yesterday. Since, my XT3 has started severe focus-hunting in video, AF-C, 18-55mm lens, latest firmware. Others have reported this on other sites. Hope this saves someone from experiencing the same problem. Комментарий от : @chris5355 |
Awesome video as ever Caleb 😁 always super informative insightful and helpful! Комментарий от : @BenjiDWJ |
@5:27 for those watching, just make sure you get high quality stuff. I’ve personally had the bolts on cheap gear shear off without much effort. All that weight from the arm could make for a bad day if it sheared. Комментарий от : @thedanpalen1 |
Hello DSLR Video Shooter, this comment is off topic and I apologise for that, but can I ask you this question? : What would be according to you the best cheapest mirrorless full frame camera for photo only? I've found hundreds of Youtube videos for Vloggers and such but not really for photo oriented camera. I'm completely lost ...Thanks in advance for your answer Комментарий от : @christelleberthon |
Quick question I can't get the rode videomicro to work with the H4n. I think its because it doesn't have plug in power for mics. The camera provides a small amount of power to the rode videomicro. If I am wrong can someone help me out with how to make this work. Комментарий от : @justinparham6450 |

i'm REALLY concerned with the wireless setup - there's a lot of self-noise being generated by the connect system. are you planning on doing a full-fledged review? Комментарий от : @SolomonHsu |
Might have to do a deity connect review soon to get me off the ledge. That wasn’t a good sound. Комментарий от : @DavidKfilmmaker |
Caleb, you're information is gold. You're always so amazing in the videos and how you walk us through the steps. Just thank you so much for everything that you do. I won't be getting this particular setup, but I am working on making the rig you built in your video earlier this month for the GH5 and a7iii (it's so modular you can just swap out the cages!). One day I hope to make this setup too. You're a legend and an inspiration! Комментарий от : @IWriteDrama |
Caleb, thanks for sharing your audio setup. I watch many YT photography channels and your audio is by far the best. Northrup's channel is close, but still not as good as yours. Being a sound engineer, I'd rate your sound quality as 8.5/10, meaning it's very very good, but not perfect. My $0.02: 1. You sound a little bassy. 2. The lav sounds mediocre (underutilized). 3. The shotgun mic is excellent. 4. The MixPre-3 is excellent. 5. The sound is a bit overcompressed. My suggestions: Disclaimer -- like most things including photography and audio, to get that extra last ten-tenths of quality takes an inordinate amount of money. 1. Use an analog mixer like an Allen & Heath MixWizard4 14:4:2 or 16:2. Its parametric EQs will help get you better control. 2. Use the parametric EQs to boost the highs; high-mid boost to give better enunciation; low-mid boost for more roundness; and probably a little bass cut. 3. You can bring out the full potential of the lav mic and make it sound almost as good as your shotgun mic using the parametric EQs well. 4. Use an analog compressor like the dbx 166xs to gain more dynamics and still not clip the audio. 5. Use your MixPre-3 to record the resulting audio like normal. 6. If you have an extra dynamic mic (Audix) or shotgun mic (Sennheiser) of different make/model, recording 3 channels of audio and mixing all 3 together will make it sound epic. Your audio will go from an already excellent 8.5/10 (in my book) to a perfect 10/10. Комментарий от : @danielho5635 |

Does the arm remind anybody of Tony Starks robot helper bot thingy? Or am I the only one suffering from marvel saturation syndrome? Комментарий от : @JesseBentonMusic |
I don't see how you use those little magic arms. I have quite a few, but any time I try to get them to hold any amount of weight just... up like that (i.e. my MixPre-3) they just spin on the 1/4" tap and fall over. Комментарий от : @EposVox |
Wish you would compare the zoom F8n vs the Sound Devices MixPre-6 Комментарий от : @GreekSquadVideos |
Only thing I would change is getting the MixPre MX-LMount (to use NP-F batteries) and then mount the wireless receiver to the top of the MixPre using the built in mount option instead of using that tacky velcro. Комментарий от : @l33tmeatwad |
Should've named this setup Overkill 9000 :) Комментарий от : @yawningmarmot |
Been needing this for my YouTube setup! Thanks so much man! Do you have any videos on setting audio levels? I film challenges where there is talking but then sudden laughs or yells from people and I need to learn how to avoid the peaking/clipping. Комментарий от : @ChristianDaSilvaFilms |
Damnit the boom is in the shot! Fire the sound guy! Haha jk Комментарий от : @scottthomas2200 |
Hey mate. The boom sounds great; do you do any post work to it? Do you find that the mix pre sounds better than, say, the XLR1 on a GH5, or other similar XLR interfaces? Комментарий от : @photojoseph |
