One of the best movies in the last two decades in my opinion. No special effects, no nudity, no extravagant superhero outfits, no award winning musical scores. Just two legendary experienced actors giving it their all, bringing to life some damn well written dialogue that can make you laugh, cry and think.

I didn’t really want to watch it but I saw two familiar award winning people 😅 and in the end I want to watch it again. I just don’t like the subtitles so much though. Hope to see more movies like this, reminds me of my religion, and it’s Sunday and I forgot to go to church again 😢

I think this is one of the only movies that made me cry 'tears of joy' when I was watching it. There were some moments when the warmth of faith and compassion, and very real, very human qualities, touch me and make me tear up just from the beauty of it.

It's been many years since I've been a practicing Christian, but this reminds me why I've never doubted for a single moment that I'm religious.

Ohhhhhhhh bravo!! Sobbed and laughed the entire way through. What a joy! One of the best films I've ever seen. Didn't think I could love Jonathan Pryce more than I already do. Truly the acting was next level. Not only was I totally convinced I was watching the two popes I knew I was also watching two great actors radiating brilliance in their old age. The scene with Hopkins having all the blurry photos taken of him with his adoring people made me absolutely fly off my chair I could hardly breathe I was laughing so hard. By the by, I was raised as an atheist, but very much feel the calling to join the Orthodox Eastern Church in my 47th year on this earth, I'm not sure where I'm going with it but I spend time each day reading scripture and writings of people such as St John of Damascus. I think one of the main reasons for this is it eastern Orthodoxy resonates with me far more than the Catholic Church and I guess part of this is it isn't tainted in my mind in the way the Catholic Church feels tainted. This film hasn't changed my resolve and intuition of the church I feel most drawn to, but it does make me realise I have tarred the Catholic Church with a very blinkered brush, and that these people, even flawed white old patriarchal leaders deserve my empathy and love and that much of what they believe is perfectly good and decent when it is not corrupted, as with all other walks of life. Hope the film helps people understand that having a faith is not a 2-dimensional process, it's a very human constant battle, and essentially it's taking part in one THE most resoundingly brilliant philosophies/truths soused in poetic truth laid at the feet of the human race. Anyways just to go back to the film, it really does have to be seen to be believed. what a super-essential endeavour it was and is. So happy for the entire cast crew and director.

BXVI is often described in this film as the conservative one while actually he was one of the main reformers in the II Vatican council, also one of the greatest mind in the teological and philosophical field. Also the people that knew him better saw him as a very kind and shy person who enjoyed studying and prayer instead of being a public figure.

Totalmente en desacuerdo. Benedicto y Francisco no son como los muestra esta película. Incluso hay diálogos que son imposibles de verificarlos que sean reales. Pienso que es una película muy subjetiva atada a la opinión del director. Por ejemplo el director, Fernando Meirelles, dice estar a favor del aborto, de que la iglesia está atrasada, de que él es un mal católico (palabras de él mismo). Claramente son ideas contrarias a la fe católica. No digo que él no puede pensar eso, cada uno es libre de pensar lo que quiera, y de hacer películas que quiera. Pero digo que no se tilde está película como la verdad de la Iglesia católica cuando el director es alguien que no está en acuerdo con ella y no va a poder mostrar la belleza y misericordia de la Iglesia y sus papas. Repito, es una película subjetiva atada a la opinión del director. Importante saberlo para cuando se la vea.

This movie has Pope Francis making the absurd claim that angels weren't invented until the 5th century.
If true, this is not only heretical (normal for "the Clown-Pope") but laughably unhistorical.
(As is this entire film, except the part where Benedict XVI basically hints that the passing of the torch would look like a plot by the Jesuits. It does look like a plot by the Jesuits. Exactly like a plot by the Jesuits.)

Was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I'm an atheist who is interested in WHY people believe, and what they believe. I have no belief in a soul, or sin, or eternal anything. In fact I find the idea of religion terrifying and oppressive, rather than comforting.

However, this film really humanised figures who are often reduced to caricatures by media and public discourse. The script is superb and the performances are stellar. A surprisingly emotional film that anyone, regardless of spiritual status can enjoy, as well as an excellent character study that pulls the viewer in with captivating acting and layered storytelling.

The Lord is the only god out there. Jesus died and got hanged on the cross so that we can go to heaven. He then got placed inside a tomb and Roman Guards were guarding his body to make sure hhis 12 Apostles wont steal it. His head was covered with a cloth then his body was covered with another cloth. 3 days later Jesus’ 12 apostles went to the tomb of Jesus then finds out that his body was gone and they also saw that his the cloth that was covering his body and the cloth that was covering his head was folded neatly meaning they rose from the dead. His Apostles also then locked themselves inside a room because they were panicking on how they can preach about Jesus. Because they were just simple people, they didn’t know how to preach. They were only fishermen. Saint Mary Magdalene also had the same problem but then while she was worrying Jesus then appeared to Saint Mary Magdalene and Jesus said “ Mary”. Because she heard her name she knew that Jesus rose from the dead. 40 days later Jesus stayed here on earth to prove that he is God and then ascended into heaven. 10 days after that he sent the Holy Spirit among Mother Mary(Not Mary Magdalene. The Mother of Jesus who is a Virgin) with his 12 Apostles who were in the house of Jesus’ last supper then the Holy Spirit told them to spread the God's word.
