 | This series is very biased from the soviet perspective. Again and again an endless list of enemy countries is listed. So the USSR seems to be surrounded by enemies. The video blames the overwhelming numbers of enemy countries and their clandestine actions for the bad situation of the Soviets in this war. The influence of western and muslim countries increased every year, but it was only one of many factors. The US and their allies failed in Afghanistan too, without this factor.
We know that the USSR was surrounded from ideological opponents from the very beginning after the Bolshevik Revolution. This situation didn´t change much to the 1980´s. The communist bloc supported the vietnamese guerrilla on a much higher scale. Why this documentary describes the western support as out of the ordinary? This was normal business in the cold war era... for both sides. Although the series explains all reasons for the soviet fail very good and better then most documentaries .....it fall back in the soviet propaganda narratives and excuses. The way they subdued the Afghans were to hunt down all the mountain elders who acted as the spiritual and political power base of the region.
