Ive been casually following this since it was announced. This game basically is promising everything I'm missing about current MMOs. The combat shown is looks boring as hell. Even the boss at the beginning of the video, which is repeated at 9:10, and the enemies at the 6:40 mark. They literally stand in one spot and every couple of seconds they swing their sword. The same animation on repeat. They just stand there while a group of people hack away at them and their HP slowly drops. This looks great in every way but that. This all sounds nice, but how are they going to be able to develop something this ambitious with a small dev team that does not have deep pocket investors? How are they going to get it out to us in a timeframe where we still care about it? I don't understand what you mean by all the hype? This game is going to be bypassed by the majority of people who want games not worlds. That being said, this is the most hype game for me personally because it is the only one claiming to be a world and community first. I'm so excited about this game (if it ever comes out) but at the same time worried that it's literally going to be P99 with updated graphics and completely ignore any sort of QOL or expected features. I mean nobody wants another WoW clone but there's a lot in between "WoW" and "1999-era gameplay". And from what I've seen of the community online a lot of them are pretty vehement that any modern game is the devil and 1999-era EQ was the best the genre has been with everything after that has ruined it. That has me skeptical the game will fall flat on its ass. How does that saying go? Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it. Here's hoping that the team manages to bring back old-school values without throwing the game back to the stone age. You can have a traditional value game without ignoring any modern conveniences. After all the entire reason WoW put EQ in its grave was because it made the basics of the game accessible to the average player. You don't have to go that far (having things be quest-based springs to mind as a big problem, but having quests rare/hard to find is equally bad) but you can still make it not so punishing that only people who played EQ in 1999 will enjoy it. Pantheon is very similar to EQ play mechanics. EQ wasn't PVP. EQ PVE was great, and had plenty of challenge. You didn't need PVP. I see many people hoping, and even demanding PVP. If you aren't familar with EQ, then it's understandable why you think PVE isn't good, but EQ style PVE is unlike any other MMO out there. You'll get plenty of challenge from the mobs in the game. You don't need random people killing you, to make the game fun. You'll have plenty of mobs to kill you to help you with that. Since death has meaning in Pantheon, it becomes something to fear. Which makes the mobs feel dangerous. WoW and pretty much every other PVE MMO game, people describe PVE as the CareBear servers. You would be very wrong to call EQ's PVE as a Carebear game, and since Pantheon is made by Brad, I'm sure Pantheon won't be a Carebear game either. WoW, and it's many clones, are for kids, Pantheon is more for adults, it's not going to hold you hand. I wouldn't hold out hope that Pantheon with be a PVP / PVE game. It's going to be PVE, with a few PVP servers. IMO, the combat style, isn't really that great for PVP anyway. This isn't a action mmo. Also, just watching a video on the combat, isn't going to impress you. Too truly understand how the combat is, you have to play the game. The combat might look slow, but if your playing, it doesn't feel slow at all. There is a lot of thought going on during battle, and you have to work together, because if you don't the mobs will kill you. Pulling 1 extra mob to your group, may be enough to wipe your group out, and death in the middle of a dungeon is a serious wipe out. There is no quick recovery from that. You have to start the dungeon all over again, and work you way back in, and there is no speed racing through dungeons like WoW, you have to tiptoe forward in dungeons, and very carefully fight mobs, or you'll easily wipe your group. RIP Brad McQuaid, he led us into a world rich with friends and adventure. Pantheon is honestly super cool looking, the only downside i've seen is the keep making delays on promises. Played EQ, DAoC, Shadowbane, Warhammer Online for years before finally collapsing to the WoW world. Miss those days and love what this game is doing! Will be building a PC to run this specifically! And I used to love hearing someone DING and seeing all the /say Gratz Congats DINGLINGALING!! and everything else people around would say! Hey have they said if they will support triple monitor setup/ultrawide monitor, ray tracing, SLI , or optimization for those kind of things? I know it's a AAA title on a smaller budget and they are totally amazing... but just wondering on what kind of PC setup would be most appropriate. They should make some one of a kind ability to obtain thru unique encounter. Such as killing a non static boss without any gear on or maneuver pass mobs without any spells or abilities on all the way to the rare NPC with no aggro, something like that. I wish I was in that room when they picked the tenants.I'd have fought for one more thing: Planned imbalance and evolution. What I mean by this is, there should be a set food chain for which classes do the least amount of damage up to which ones do the most. Least healing to most, and least group support to most. And whoever is the top dog in each category should have a price to pay for being at the top. And the ones who aren't dominant in one category should get some group and personal perks to make up for it. Being a guy who played EQ, and FFXI, then WoW.. and seeing how things evolved into now, I think the developers trying too much to "balance" classes slowly destroyed the genre too. Because at the end of the day, to get those damage meters to match, or to get all the tanks and healers to be able to handle every situation at the same efficiency, they had to dumb abilities down and just make every class essentially have the same abilities with different names (FFXIV is super guilty of this) The reason I say "and evolution", is because I'd like people to be rewarded in the "end game" for diffucult leveling experiences. People who play classes that help with group support/synergy should end up having the strongest and most desirable classes end game for doing large scale raids. People who play classes that are born strong should lose group value as they level. - In some cases, you could keep the balance the same and imbalance the gear rewards and make some over powered weapons for the "weakest" classes. Theme park mmos ruined mmos. Convenience kills. It might be nice, and easier for casuals, but its completely destroyd the reward aspect. The shit part is that mega corporations need millions of subs to even be funded, which means content such as story and design, are side lined in favor for gimicky aspects and time sinks. - Immersive? Good luck with that, cause those running/fighting animations only remind me that ...i am playing a game. - I like their philosophy. Where progress will be based on skill and not just commitment. It might be the first MMO lately without "dailies" and "caps". amazing. - I really do hope there will be some sort of customizing your gear's appearance and colors. Cause i usually end up not liking how the best gear looks, but have to bear with it cause it's the best. Which makes it feel more like a punishment than a reward for my efforts. - I hope that there will be some verticality in the maps. And that each class will have abiities to help traverse it easier. For example: If you have enough dexterity you could dodge-roll, or climb trees and slopes, or even use a rope up/down levels, tumble-roll from heights. If you have enough strength you could block attacks, jump higher/longer and do superhero-landings from heights. For the players that dont get excited about mobility, there could be other paths. For example: If you have enough wisdom you could identify loot yourself, or gather more from nodes, craft better gear, reveal more map area, or be given a headsup of NPC tendencies.. If you have enough charisma you could have a smaller aggro buldup and aggro range, get better deals, more potent buffs, or better pet damage. - I hope that crafters will be sought after. Chests and bosses to drop the best materials and recipes, instead of the item itself. - I know i will regret this but.... maybe not have the player appear on the map. But navigate through landmarks. Oh i will regret this... - I hope that exploration will be encouraged. That there will be completely random world boss spawns, lots of hidden paths, lots of walking/jumping finesse to get to certain spots, that certain dungeons/caves/maps will change every-x-time so there will be a reason to re-do them but not feel like a routine. - Maybe have day/night hot/cold dry/wet play a role on spells, movement, sneaking... For example, GW2 had this a little bit, where a certain area had lightning storm, so you either had to not-touch the ground, or be under cover, or you'd die, etc... - I'm also personally a fan of oldschool inventory (i call it tetris-inventory), you cant have a sword take the same space as a ring. i like a combined "tetris" and weight inventory mechanic. - And for PvP.. You you tell someone that; "you have to do this", "you have to do that" or "you have to group with people to progress", is a recipe for disaster. Let me think about this for a sec. humm..... oh yea I can just buy 2, 3, 4 or maybe 5 accounts and just do shit, still by myself, and let me think about this for a minute, yea that's exactly what happened in EQ1 from the beginning. This mentality does not work anymore. This isn't 1999. People , are willing to spend hundred of dollars per month for accounts , etc. Don't kid yourself about this because spending 200-500 per month to do something like this ain't shit. People, now, have a lot of disposable income, especially here in America. $6,000 a year ain't shit for entertainment. Dude you have no idea how badly I NEED This game I blasted wow into the ground since it came out I played EQ2 into the ground in its prime I owned Vanguard and many others I lead a guild of over 500 active players for over a decade I crushed RPGs into dust and I have been Starving for years and my friends as well sitting in front of our PC looking at steam list and google hoping for a hidden game to play. I was hyped for this game until I learned what "raiding" is going to be. So all the "raids" are open world bosses on a semi random cooldown timer. This is exactly what vanilla wow outdoor bosses were like. So the only people that are going to get to kill world bosses are organized guilds full of young people with no jobs. Power and Prestige! Yes! My EQ Enchanter started as a newbie, with no dps power, and simple mez ability. As I grew, I met people in a guild, and they invited me. Then they challenged me to make it possible for the tank, and healer (Cleric) to handle what was possible, while I (the Enchanter) had NPCs "sleeping" until the tank and healer could handle a new one. And then I keep the extra NPCs asleep. And we worked through the whole of them. And then we repeated it as we came to crowds of NPCs "mobs". Eventually I was 50, and could mez Hate and Fear raid mobs. Allowing the tank, healer, and dps to work on mobs that they could handle. So tanks got prestige for doing it well, and love and prestige for good Clerics. And same for me, the Enchanter. My reputation grew as word passed around the community. Guilds asked me leave my guild and join them, and I said no I love my guild. But I did many times help those guilds if mine wasn't raiding and no member needed me to help then. We were elitist Nathan, because you had to learn and become tactically skilled, but it wasn't being arrogant. By level 70 my Enchanter was known by a dozen high end guilds, and I knew about the best Warriors and Clerics. Also great Druids and Wizards, and so when I found spells they could use, I sold them at a fair price. And they helped me get very rare Enchanter spells that most Enchanters never got. Blanket, area of effect mezzing and hate lowering. Single target long term mezzing. And there was no in-game map in the beginning. So for Hate and Fear during level 50 cap, you had to know the zone. But not everybody could do that, so we had many that followed those who knew, then we set up. Because just because they had trouble finding their way through the zone didn't mean they weren't the best class/person when we set up to take on mobs. This already is a NICHE PVE mmo built on grouping, hard content, and a love of exploration and community.... they are not a huge studio..... leave pvp out for 4 or 5 years til the game is released, running well, and the community actually gives a damn. I like soloing because I can play at my pace. I like down-time because I can't pause real life. All my interactions come from encountering other adventurers and swapping buffs, dragging corpses, or trading loot. Комментарий от : @briang8663 |
