 | I used to play magic back in the early 2000s, just downloaded arena a couple days ago and need help understand something. I used a rare wildcard to craft an M19 Shivan Dragon (old school favorite) and it says it cannot be used in the current standard format. Did I waste a wildcard or what?  | I have been on the edge about Magic the Gathering: Arena. I wanted to try it becuase i've been looking for a card game, but wasn't sure. I'm glad that you brought up the hardcopy purchases usually have redemption codes for online copies within MTG:Arena. This is something that they need to advertise more. I googled over and over and couldn't find anything about it. The Pokemon TCG Online is very public and markets this redeeming process. | MTG Arena is a scam to get your money. Don't spend ANY money on their site. Their shuffler is intentionally broken to allow players spending money to win more matches by mana starvation and flooding.  | What is the point of this? Why does Wizards continue to add more and more platforms for the same damn game? All this does is spread out the playerbase, which is the exact opposite of what they should be trying to do. If the entire purpose of this game was to make a more modernized battlefield with cool effects and eye-candy... why not just revamp Magic: Online's playing field? Magic players are constantly talking about ways to bring the players together, and Wizards keeps releasing products that spreads everybody apart. And to top it off, it's completely "pay to win," again... It's like they just expect players to dump a bunch of money into a completely new game every couple of years, instead of letting players build-up their collections (as the game originally intended). I will admit, it looks cool, albeit it just looks like they stole a bunch of concepts from the other popular digital CCGs... and "looking cool" doesn't justify thinning out what's left of magic's playerbase, and for that reason, I won't be following them around and dumping hundreds of dollars into every new platform they decide to release. I really wish they would prioritize bringing the community together as opposed to continually releasing products that simply break everybody apart. It's very discouraging.  | First and foremost; i ve been playing Hearthstone for a little over 2 years. Im a wild ladder player, went as far as rank 3. I decided today to give this game a try after the recent events and after the thought that HS releases 3 expansions each year and considering the pack prices, i wont be able to get the value that matches the price in long term. So i just jumped right on it. I just completed the tutorial, played against the advisor or Spark w/e, then played 2 games against other players with a starter deck, lost my first game against a player who had weird looking cards which i can only assume he was paying for packs or w/e, but won my 2nd game against a player who was playing the exact same deck that i was playing. Based on this little experience, this game is FAR TOO complicated for a new player such as myself. When i was playing the tutorial i asked myself: "Why the fuck would anyone choose Hearthstone over this?!" The actual gameplay is fun, requires far more tactical thinking, the card power levels (so far) are fairly balanced so both players have fair chances of winning if they plan it right. However, as soon as i finished the tutorial, i got my answer. Hearthstone is the most popular card game out there for 2 reasons: 1- The super simple gameplay and 1 currency. You get gold by completing the quests or winning games. As simple as it can get. It has 2 game modes; arena and ladder, one is free and 1 requires 150g as an entry fee which you can easily earn by playing for give or take 2 hours. The interface is really clean, you can find what you are looking for without searching for a fuckin guide. 2- Streamers. Due to the fun nature of most of its streamers the game went mainstream and as a result got more and more popular. Im at the main menu screen right now, looking at shit and trying to figure them out by reading guides which apperantly has been written by the ultimate neckbeard since it is so detailed that i cant understand wtf he was trying to explain. What is the best way to spend my mastery points? Does this game have any PvE content? Does playing against bots complete my quests? What are the specialties of these classes or colors in terms of gameplay mechanics? What is that selection thing that appears on my land interface after i play a card? After i attack with a minion i cant seem to block during the opponent's turn, why is that? And most of all, where the fuck do i get the answers to these questions?! Комментарий от : @asdasvedas1 |

 | I can only assume the game punishes you in some way for not spending money or its just extremely broken. I've been playing from pretty much day one, and even after the latest updates to the game its still broken. As much as I used to enjoy this game as a teen, id really like to like this game, as i don't have to go to a local arena just to play with others. So consider this a formal mini review. Plus sides are that the graphics are great and the animations coming out of the cards was a kids dream come true. It also runs very well, and rarely glitches, though i have seen some of the rules get bent from time to time, such as one recently where my spell should have been countered and it summoned anyway. Que times are also amazing, although this is expected as the player base for this game has always been strong, tabletop or otherwise. But lets get to where this game breaks... Part of the issue is that they keep speeding the game up. Most games are won within 3 rounds, so its more of a who draws the gun fastest (lucky hand) kind of play. But the crux is the land issue. Something is wrong with the algorithm for how cards are shuffled. every 2-3 games you concede because of land issues. I've tried moving my land count in different directions and no dice. 24 seems to be the most stable, especially when using multi colored decks. But then lets add this up. Next your pretty much conceding the majority of your matches and start cherry picking. Once your versed in magic you can most times immediately tell when a match is going sideways in the first few turns. Added to the fact that the game has been sped up yet again with the release of 2020 and BAM you get my point. If your just playing it for free theirs no harm no foul. But i have yet to want to buy anything from the store, because I'm not proud of the way i have to play. Generally all i do is cherry pick matches to get my daily's and farm to open packs. Basically just so i can collect more cards to play local games with my friends, and at that point i might as well be going to my local Magic dealer, and play it with my friends there.  | I started playing this game recently and it's pretty cancerous. Sure, it's addicting and fun, especially if you're the grindy type, but once you realize it's pretty much pay to win, or grind like a straight chinese farmer for half the day everyday to be on a payers level, you will get tired real fast. I started playing casually, unlocked a few cards, but it's not nearly enough. The game gives you half-ass core set uncommons and the worst possible rares as rewards. You will enter a game only to get roflstomped by some neckbeard with an actual standard deck, or you'll simply draw 2 lands the whole game, while your opponent has 26.
