Honestly, this along with Pink Collection #3 make me think that Robert Best must think to himself, "Jesus they really botched this one." The sketch on the front of the box showcases gorgeous long flowy hair and they must have really rushed production on this one for the hair and dress to have come out this way. Thankfully the straight out sideburns seem to have relaxed over time because mine pushes back and down really well since there's little to no product in the hair. The face is gorgeous but I think I'm going to get one of the short black dresses from the BFMC fashion collection for her because she looks like she's headed to a conservative funeral in this piece.

I just got this doll honestly for the doll itself.. I think she has a beautiful face and hair but I am not very happy with the outfit. The concept is nice but I don't think the fabric was the best choice. But as you say, She has great potential to customize and at the end of the day, that's what I was going for =) . I am sad that they are not producing anymore of this line so I am happy I was able to get her +). Thanks for your wonderful review!

My friend is giving me barbie dolls as birthday gift and the budget is rm300, this doll costs rm249, I was about to pick it but I don't cuz I don't think it worth 249 we'll the face does worth at least rm60 tho, so I picked a puma x barbie doll, a 2011 fashionistas sweetie and a made to move, I'm still waiting for my doll to arrive lmao, stay safe everybodeh!

I really love your reveal videos. I am on the fence with this doll. I like the hair, but are with you on the side pieces. I love the shoes and stockings. I don't like the fit of the dress and I like the makeup, but not with the plain black dress. Her face just seems to fade away with the whole plain black look. I had to cut my tag off to take the dress off. I am going to redress her as I feel the dress is plain and shapeless and I don't care for the high fashion plain look. I don't think this is a "best" in black look. I would have preferred a cute cocktail dress.

Kimmy Schmidt called and wants her "mole woman" dress back!...I have loved the silkstone dolls for years and have approx.2/3 of the line. They are lovely dolls! I love that you can touch them and feel the fine fabrics. Mattel, as a collector, I would pay more for better quality. I know costs have gone up, but collectors want dolls with all the extras like the early dolls.. the finests fabrics, the complete jewelry set, the beautiful coiffed hair... this doll has none of my checklist!... the price is lower, but so what! The hair is a disaster and don't even get me started on that shapeless, feedsack of a black funeral dress with "puff sleeves" that only Ann with an "E" could love.... peddle faster, keep up mattel, or its off to the fashion royalty dolls. Yes they are expensive but collectors have money to spend on our dolls!...I appreciate you Suresh NY for opening the dolls and allowing us to see the entire doll and the honest reviews. I have hundreds of dolls (lost count)... some boxed some not.... Your very entertaining as well as easy on the eyes.... this hot mess of a doll has "bored us for the last time".

The doll has such a pretty face, and I love the color of her hair as well. The dress, though... again, I'm giving away my age, but the dress is remarkably similar to a cream-colored dress I once owned way back in the 80s. (And oh, how puffed sleeves of all varieties were big back then!) My dress had gold buttons on the sleeve and gold embroidery on the collar - apart from the color, those are pretty much the only major differences I see. What was old is new again! That said, I'm not thrilled with how very plain Barbie's black dress is. It needs some contrasting touches to lift it up out of the ordinary. Nor am I convinced that the dress matches this particular doll. Her complexion, at least to me, cries out for spring colors, soft pastels. Perhaps, if Robert Best was set on a solid black ensemble, it might have been better to feature it on a dark-haired doll, with more dramatic make-up. And how about some jewels...? Diamonds always wear well with black....

You are so nice Suresh and I will always be a great fan of you and your reviews, but you were to nice on this doll.
Your such a wonderful gentleman, but I got the strong feeling you were pulling your punches. That's fine. You should be nice. I, on the other hand, don't have to be, so I'll say what you may have wanted to say but having good manners, desided not to.
Pretty doll, although I'm not a fan of the vintage head mold having painted lashes on her eyes, she is very pretty with pretty hair, and the color is lovely.
But the over all non existent style and dead concept is not to be ignored.
It's boring, drab, dull and cheap. Mattel is still trying to help their financial woes by selling dolls that lack imagination and flair.
Is she worthy of buying? Yes, when the price drops and you can grab one or two to redress and fix up.
I'm left unimpressed and with the strong confirmation that fashion royalty dolls makes the collectible Barbie dolls look like tacky dime store toy's.
Other wise, great review.

I bought her because she was being discontinued but not really that neat. Her has was disappointing and I don’t like the fact that there were loose threads sticking out.
It would have been nice if maybe her collar and cuffs had black velvet.

Barbie specials like this are shameful. The hair and outfits are a disappointment. Start selling nude dolls and sell outfits seperately. I would love to dress my dolls in new outfits then have to buy a whole new doll. Also, the hair. They just dont seem to care! They are getting lazy about Barbie. I love the dress but am pissed that again there are quality issues that you found like the snip at the back! There is an avant garde quality to them and ironically many designers always produce many black pieces in their final collections, Ferre, Marc and Saint Laurent so there is not that gloomy aspect as perceived! So sad and disappointing, not even worth the price. I didn’t discover silkstones until 2019 and i went straight to the earlier hourglass shape to collect, i have curves and i want my barbies to have them too! I don’t care if her waist is smaller than mine could ever be I’m just happy she has a bosom lol. In addition the earlier designs were real fashion, with craftsmanship that matched and exceeded the price. these new ones i can hand sew nicer pieces and whats a barbie without her accessories?!? Purses, earrings, bracelets, undergarments, so sad that i now have to try and hand craft those on my own now too.

I will continue to hunt for any and all of the earlier ones i can find in my price range and treasure them as the jewels they are.

me again... one of the problems, I think, is that the BFMC line has clearly honored the glamor of past decades, as you mention--i.e. the 40s, 50s and 60s--so, why close out the series with a quantum leap into modern minimalism? I truly hope the remaining BFMC dolls are more true the couture fashion of the past. Love your reviews!

I was so excited to get my first silkstone a few years ago. It is sad to see them go. I think because of your channel I can better appreciate what the classic body dolls had to offer. Kind of plain, but I don't love or hate this doll. She looks versatile for dressing up or down in different ways. That said, she should be about $20 cheaper.

Thanks for removing the clothes and comparing her to the bodies of your dolls past! That gave me more insight to my own Made To Move doll collection for customs and play action posing (may be more of an adult than pre-17 year old art form also)! Putting a collector doll (limited production) in more of a Made To Move body means more of a play doll, I thought? Removing her from her packaging is then necessary! Action posing of LE dolls to individual tastes are then necessary? I like the high heel shoes and stockings (as you did) and I like her '59 face mold with her very strange hairdo (you dislike or find weird but I like and found interesting and unique)! $60 USD for this experience is questionable when Mattel Made To Moves are $15.99 USD (still found today at Walmarts but without exquisite accessories and more boring head and hair or head designs)!

Sorry but the best thing about this doll is the box. For the last year of these dolls I would have expected the first and last dolls to be amazing! But no! Barbie Basic!! Let’s hope we have better dolls in store for 2020.

I'm so disappointed for Barbie FMC to be ending this year. I have joined the barbie collection game a little late so I am always excited to watch your reviews Suresh. You are very detailed, informative, and jovial with each doll review. Plus you are truly the only barbie collector that does barbie reviews. I personally have to say that this outfit is a no for me, There is nothing enticing to even focus on. I may be more forgiving if they placed an eloquent necklace or a eloquent updo. I love the look of the barbie but it looks like 80s puffed sleeves met with 50s school principal and birthed this hot mess. It "somehow" feels like a big part of ones delight, comfort and fun is being taken away. Slipping away as we experience her Silkstone quality slowly diminishing in our hands since 2 - 3 years ago. For a moment we were also confused when they made articulation happen (what is this, mannequin or playline?) This 2020 Barbie doll "seems" to be a result of an uninspired, sad doll artist, which can only be said because we know what Robert Best can do when he is overflowing with inspiration. I remember in the Atelier video Robert Best saying that much of what he designs for the Silkstone collection are inspirations from what is currently happening in his life. When he posted this 2020 Silkstone in instagram he even disabled the comments section seemingly acknowledging the fact that he knows too well how dramatic a change this is from the previous collections. He knows how collectors will be affected. And perhaps that pains him too (as all artists feel when their pet projects lose life in face of a company's new direction). However kudos to Robert for being a good soldier -- an iconic doll artist even. Probably he's following Barbie's lead. This prized doll is shedding her classic couture to battle market shares in a different arena. And so we see Robert's excitement and joy designing Barbie in her Star Wars regalia. You were right, Suresh. Doll culture and doll playing is changing with the flourish of technology. And perhaps being a multi-million dollar brand fighting to survive, Barbie needs to forget a part of her that once delighted us all and embrace themes that make her universally relevant, inclusive and diverse today.
